Tocqueville

Tocqueville was basically a twisted up story that had horrifying details from someone's life. For an example, on pg 25 when he talked about how his best friend got arrested for child pornography. And how he mentions those same people were adults and are probably fantasizing, masturbating, etc is horrifying to think about. Another thing that was twisted is the fact that he talked about how his Bestfriend father was on an oxygen tank and smoked until he died. That is a depressing thing.

Another twisted story on Tocqueville is when he talked about how they already killed his wife on the field, and forced him to buldgeon his baby. The worst pain a caring parent can feel is witnessing their innocent child dying. It's like their life was taken right their because when a child is brought into this world, the parents are now living for that child whom is a blessing. And even after the fact when they forced him to kill his innocent baby, they STILL cut his arms off. Horrifying stories like those are what makes you get into deep thought.

In conclusion, Tocqueville is a very horrifying twisted story made into poems. I think its to bring poems into a whole another poetic level. I think that because it will make people get into deep thought, or maybe even inspire others to make deep, emotional poems. Poems do not always have a happy ending.

Preference Poem

The Preference poem was about a man of stereotypical thinking of young women always asking for something, and older women are more helpful. For example in the poem he says "I like women six or eight or ten years older than myself" which shows that his preference is older women. He thinks that they will be more helpful in anything that he needs help with because they are older and with a little more experience. He thinks that older women will be more appreciative of him and not the materialistic things.
In the poem, he says " young girl will say Daddy, I want so-and-so"  which means that he thinks that all younger women are always in a man's pockets. I think that he thinks this because younger people are more financially unstable than older people. The author thinks that a young girl always needs something maybe based off his own experience with a younger girl. His thoughts is based off what he said in the poem that older women will make money and bring it home to him.
Overall, I think the poem is very stereotypical. Age isn't nothing but a number and everyone is not the same. I feel as if you can't judge a group based off your experience with one person. Everyone has their own way of doing things, own thoughts, and way of life. Stereotypes are not the way to go. I feel as if younger women always being in a man pockets is a stereotype because every young woman is not in a man's pockets because it is not always about the money.

In the Tree Poem

In the Tree poem is a poem that was translated from Japanese by Sawako Nakayasu. This was my favorite poem from the poetry packet. It has very little words but the words it do give are very descriptive and deep. The poem shows a lot of emotion through the setting, weather, etc. It is a very good poem.
For example in the poem, it talks about the restless birds in the tree and how it changes the whole mood of the poem. Usually birds in a trr
we would be peaceful. But the birds being restless would make you think of something depressing like rain. The rain connects with the emotions through the day and night of the author.
The rain deeply runs through the thought of their mind. the rain made thoughts run through their brain from left to right. Nobody will never no the thoughts but based off the poem,  it seemed as if the thoughts were very deep. Everyone should read it!
